iPad 2 Smart Cover Security Flaw

Published by in apple, iPad on October 23rd, 2011

Yesterday it surfaced on popular websites like youtube and facebook that there is a security flaw with the iPad 2 smart cover allowing you to bypass the security code. To the average person this isn’t really a biggie, perhaps their Facebook will be at risk from the odd rape or two from a family member, but no serious harm done. It may be open to abuse by people spam buying applications costing people loads of money.

If anything its a minor hindrance to some people, but none the less its a simple, easy to implement, security flaw that apple need to fix it.

Basically:
- If you have unlocked your iPad2 and leave it unattended for a few moment you are at risk.
- If you place the smart cover over the iPad then peel the cover back you find yourself back at the enter security code screen (all is good so far),
- Now hold the screen lock button down until you get the power off prompt.
- Place the smart cover over the screen again and then press cancel on the power off prompt.
- Da da! Your in, no need to put in the security code.

Heres a video that explains it in a bit more detail:
